I REALLY like the Falcon 18! IMHO the smallish hatches are not really a problem. I generally am paddling with others with larger hatches and I am content taking some of the heavier compact items, like H2O . I'm not sure your little *Happy* will be content on the rear deck, though it is relativley flat.
