The pad I use is about four inches thick, six inches wide, and about fourteen inches long. It doesn't impede getting in or out at all, probably because I have a fairly large cockpit, although I'm a pretty big guy, too. I started out with a sheet of foam rubber that I rolled and folded various ways to get the most comfortable configuration. I had real pain in staying in the boat more than about an hour before I came up with this -- it makes a world of difference.
