In your price range, I recommend the Garmin 12, which has most of the
features of the Garmin 12XL except, I think, the city database, which
is new in the 12XL. A big advantage of the Garmins over the Magellans,
in my opinion, is the large number of third-party utilities and
accessories available for Garmin products, including power and data
cables and connectors. There is also a new color version of the 12XL,
the Garmin 12XC, but you're talking about $280 for that one. For
