I was in last years race and they don't even have my name lasted with the finishers. My combined time was 8:00 hours. That picture on the Web sites home page is my proof. You can see me in the center of the picture, white cap, red dry suit and out of focus. Can't tell if its the 1997 or the 1998 race. Joal Rogers has a similar picture in his 1999 Sea Kayaking calendar. It is from 1997, the first year of the race. Note in the Joal Rogers picture I am the only one in a wet or dry suit. Its a Kokatat Gore-TeX that worked great for the four hours of paddling. Had some amused looks form the hard core racers at the start of the race but by the end of the second day the six racers who needed to be rescued, probably wish they had had one on. The race is turning into a fat water event, The challenge of wind, waves and current is being programed out of it for safety reasons which is understandable, if boring. The jet ski's as safety boats are very annoying. This year I am going to head down to the Tsunami Ranger race at Half Moon Bay CA. the first weekend in May. I will also be at the Santa Cruz, CA Surf Contest March 13 and 14.
