My wife and I will be in Northwest Arkansas during Easter break and we are looking to rent. Anyone have ideas or information? Check with Pack Rat in Fayetteville, or BOC (Buffalo Outdoor Center) in Ponca or Pruit. In addition to kayak, canoe, tent, backpack and other rentals, Pack Rat can give you ideas on where the good paddling is that week. BOC handles rentals on the Buffalo River, I don't know if they handle kayaks. They are very handy if you want to do a 1 - 3 day on the Buffalo National Scenic River. I've used the BOC for shuttle and I think it was one of the first times they had even seen a sea kayak when they shuttled mine for me a couple of years back. There's been a few of us over there since and they were asking about SOTs though I don't know if they have any in their stable yet. They have bunches of canoes and are great to deal with. I know they have seen a lot of white water boats but sea kayaks are still few in this part of the country. The Buffalo has some fairly tight turns, some shallows and an occasional sweeper here or there to watch out for, especially after a storm has blown through. But it's a pretty river to take your time on. Easter will still be before the main season gets going and you should be able to avoid most of the crowds. It can be quite an obstacle course from Memorial Day through Labor Day. :-) Happy and I go over there every now and then anyway just because it's so pretty through there. I second the idea of checking with the Pack Rat. Keep you eye on the weather. Have fun.
