(snip) >Signed >Phil Huck >thekayaker_at_yahoo.com The hubby and I are trying to get more involved with a local canoe assoc. We are also working on improving our skills. This will include not one but two trips to GRO this year alone for classes, plus local classes. We're aware of the danger, and we're doing something about it. Remember, nature is a mother. What frightens me is how many people in the canoe assoc who have told us not to waste our money on classes and just paddle more. These are guys who wear their pfd's, and can make it down the river with no problem, but I guess (and hope) they don't plan on doing much besides local lakes and rivers. Whereas we're looking at a couple of serious camping trips this summer. Of course there are people who teach (or used to teach) paddling classes in the canoe assoc too, but they don't seem to speak up as much as the guys who are just "paddling more" and not paddling better... just my $0.02 Julie *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Thu Mar 04 1999 - 11:34:54 PST
