The little gold kangaroo on one side in the hatband will soon be balanced by a kiwi on the other side. I'd better fit it soon or my paddling partner will want to know why (it's not there yet). The hat came without any method of holding on in high winds but on each side there are two grommetted vent holes and a leather boot lace(?) is now threaded through them and under my chin and a plastic toggle tensions it. At the very worst, 30 knot gusts, it blows off backwards and gently strangles me. A number of our group use leather hats, one uses a varnished (yes, varnish as is applied to furniture) cloth hat of the same style. All of these cover the ears - similar in style to the Tilley hats.
