The only hat I've ever loved.

My first one disappeared when the chin strap, weakened from years of abrasion
from my throat stubble, broke in a dumping 6-foot surf.  It floated away as I
was busy rescuing several students who had been scattered in the water by the
previous wave set.  By the time I was able to return to search for it, I could
not find it.  I have always imagined that it found a better life, shading the
head of a lovely mama somewhere on a remote tropical island.
