"Try before you buy." I have not used one, but I have received some input from folks in Europe, where it has been available for some time. All of this is second hand, so take it with a grain of salt. First, I have heard that the screen of the 12CX is more difficult to read at an angle (when compared to the monochrome display). I have also heard that the battery life is overstated. The unit gets "up to" 36 hours on a set of alkalines, because they have reimplemented some sort of battery saving mode, the effectiveness of which is highly variable. (It works better if you stop frequently--with constant motion there is little savings.) While the screen is supposed to be easier to read in direct sunlight than other color displays, I have heard that it is *not* easier to read than the monochrome display. The unit also has a reduced temperature range (on the upper end) which could be a problem if you are using it direct sunlight on a dark surface in Florida. On the positive side, it has zoom-in, zoom-out buttons (which the 12XL lacks), and an improved graphical interface for working with the waypoint list (it uses a tab system). I believe that it also holds 1000 waypoints (as opposed to the 500 of the 12XL). And you *may* get additional battery life. All of the above is unconfirmed. Let me know what you think if you have a chance to use one. Dan Hagen Bob Denton wrote: > American Airlines stole my 12Xl and I am considering the CX as a > replacement.
