Paddlesport 99 will take place in Somerset NJ, March 26-28. The event is run by Jersey Paddler. For info contact 732-458-5777 or visit their web site at http://www.jerseypaddler.com. It looks like less than an hour from New York City and a little over 3 hours from the DC area. Hours of the event are 5-9pm Fri, 9-6pm Sat, 9-4:30pm Sun. Feathercraft fans or wannabes are in for a treat. Doug Simpson will be here; he is co-founder, prinicipal designer and majority owner of the company. He started the company on a shoestring out of a squatter operation in an abandoned industrial area of Vancouver; in order to buy material to make the first boats, he and his partner did prospecting claims staking for others during the winter. Doug has also been to Cape Horn and the Bering Strait with his Feathercrafts. It is a rare treat to have him in this area as he has not been here since I believe 1993. If you have a question regarding the models, assembly, etc. he is the guy to ask. He will be at the Feathercraft booth. Also with him is Anna (I forget her last name). She is the person who makes the K-1. All Feathercrafts, with the exception of the K-Lights, are made by a designated person. Skins are sewn by a team of individuals but that designated person does all the frame bars and crossribs; he or she cuts, burnishes and elaborates these from basic aluminum tubing and polyethylene sheets. Anna is _the_ K-1 lady. Oh, and little ole me will be there too. I am speaking about folding kayaks at 3pm Saturday and noon on Sunday. At other times I will be at the Feathercraft booth when not speaking or roaming around to see the show. If you have questions regarding Feathercrafts, Kleppers, Nautiraids and Folbots or subjects like Dealing With Traffic in busy waters, I would be happy to share what I know. Hope to see some of you there. saludos, ralph diaz -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ralph Diaz . . .
