This is a response to the post from Jake about night lights. I am the person who was crossing Lake Erie when a seventy to eighty foot long ship a few miles away changed course. The reason for the course change was due to their ship seeing the white deck light of my sea kayak. Just as Jake typed, the two foot waves that came between me and the ship caused my steady deck light to look like a blinking strobe light. When I paddle at night I like to use no illumination and keep course by paddling toward a star on the horizon. On that particular night the skies were cloudy and I used the flashlight to illuminate my deck compass. Good night padlling, Don Dimond *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
