One trick if you find you need to make a full turnaround, use the waves to
help you.  This is hard to explain and I learned it by turning big ships in
monsterous seas.

The idea is you actually start to yaw naturally in one direction or the other
when going into or away from a wave.  That starts momentum.  Normally the
whole turn movement stops as you peak so the idea is keep the momentum going.
With practice you will find yourself sitting on the peaks of the wave with
both ends of the boat out of the water.  You will have momentum spinning you
one way or another so just help it along with a strong stroke and twist of the
abs, knees.  Poof you just spin on a dime.

Since it takes a bit of timing, you miss a few but its a cool feeling to turn
180 without tons of front/back strokes.
