This is a reply to the post from Greg Hollingsworth post
about turning in high winds.
I have found that when paddling in high winds the best
way for me to turn, if the old forward and reverse
sweeps do not work,is to put my sea kayak on edge and
then use sculling sweeps just on my right side.

I tell students that you need to be able to turn 360
degrees in the winds that you find yourself if you want
to say that you can deal with those winds.

Not being able to turn can become a problem if you
paddling in a group and a capsize occurs. At a minimum
you should be able to paddle in place or backwards to
reach the capsized paddler.
