The movie may be bad - I've never seen it - but the book is quite stirring and interesting. Of twelve boaters who set out to attach limpet mines to German shipping, only four (if you count the two who never leave the submarine mother-ship due to a torn boat) live to see the end of the war. Along the way, they run several huge tide-races (at night!). The boats that survive this have to take the decision to abandon the swimmers from the sunken boats (and we think we have to make tough group dynamic calls!). No GPSs, no VHFs, no Gore-Tex drysuits, no paddle-floats - just guts and determination. The book is long out of print but you may find it at your library or used-book dealer. Well worth reading.
