Although I enjoyed watching the Eco-Challenge, especially the opening sea leg segment, I found myself getting frustrated with the quick camera cut aways from some really neat window shading and pearling scenes that lots of the paddling teams seemed to be enduring. A nice close camera shot, the wave builds up and starts to spill, the boat begins to broach, and then ...<<click>> ....the camera would cut to the ass-end of a camel being loaded with God-knows what kind of gear on God-knows what kind of saddle !! All in all it was pretty good coverage, but could have been a lots better from my perspective. I found myself watching and actually saying outloud....brace, brace, big dink now !! (My wife, a non-paddler, thought I was having another "spell" !!) In fact I think they have the whole race backwards. Spectacular scenery in a rugged, remote setting and they "race" through it !! .....go figure ! My rules would pick a winner by which team was the "LAST" to come back to civilization ! And now a race update from our local reporter ........ "Team LongGone has not been heard from for 4 weeks now. All efforts to locate them have failed and although they are not the only team still out there in the Devil's Backbone area of the Atlas Mtns, their exact whereabouts have been unknown. Race officials are planning to leave a stone tablet at the finish line, telling the front-running teams WHERE the banquet awards ceremony will be held. WHEN the ceremony occurs is uncertain at this time. And now back to Race Central." Yeah, we race sometimes down here in the bayous, but it is usually to get the best camp site, and be the first to have supper cooked. A check of the judges notes reveals ...... ...team 2 has a wonderful carrot-cabbage-dandelion green salad ready for consumption with a nice merlot splash dressing. ...team 5 has 4 pounds of rice ready for its 3 team members to cover with their choice of red beans w/ smoked sausage, crawfish etouffe, or shrimp-crab gumbo ...hmmmm, not bad for leftovers even !! You folks pass a good day ! ...........Peyton (Louisiana) ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
