Uh-oh, radios again! Well, now it's my turn to buy one, so I get to start a thread. In the course of my shopping, I noticed the Uniden HH940 and HH980. The 940 is cute, and so small that it would fit in a shirt pocket (or small PFD pocket), which would be nice. But it achieves this by limiting itself to 1 watt of output power. The 980 looks good, outputs 5 watts, and its 3-year warranty includes water damage. It says it meets Coast Guard spec CFR46 for watertight-ness. Anyone know anything about that spec? My initial Web searches turned up nothing useful. Anyone have other comments about the HH980? Also, the dealer with the lowest price on this radio seems to be Valco Electronics, at $189 U.S. In contrast, West Marine and others wanted $219, and others wanted still more. Has anyone done business with Valco to attest to their integrity? Thanks, Mark Hunter in L.A. (where the frequent snowstorms seem to have stopped, finally) *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Tue Apr 13 1999 - 20:02:55 PDT
