I heard that there is an auction in Minneapolis comming up April 24th for paddlers. Does anyone have any info? Jim Vivian *************************************************************** The auction is part of Midwest Mountaineering's annual Canoe Event and Outdoor Adventure Expo, which has a lot of other attractions as well, including speakers on a large number of outdoors-related topics and displays by manufacturers, outdoor organizations, outfitters, and the Minnesota DNR. The featured speaker this year is renowned outdoor photographer Galen Rowell. The auction is Saturday morning, and is run by the Minnesota Canoe Association. They start accepting boats around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. I think the auction is usually at 11:00 a.m., but treat that information with caution, since I don't have the times in front of me. If you have a boat you want to sell, just show up with it early in the morning and fill out a form on the boat's construction, the minimum bid at which you will let it go, and other info. If you want to buy, show up mid-morning to look the boats over. There is usually quite a variety. Probably the best deals are the home-built cedar strip canoes, which are usually well-built, yet typically have low minimum bids. There is also an increasing number of sea kayaks for sale. I've never counted them, but I would guess that there were 70 to 100 watercraft of all kinds at the auction last year. The boats are displayed on a lawn across the street from Midwest Mountaineering. You can find directions to MM on their Web site at http://midwestmtn.com/.
