Ultralight paddles, are for everyone. Getting rid of the extra weight is wonderful. If you are using a 39 ounce paddle instead of a 23 ounce paddle that's an extra pound of weight you are lifting on each stroke. If you paddle at 50 strokes per minute thats an extra 50 pounds per minute, 300 pounds per hour. Sure you'll be stronger after you get used to the heavier paddle, but is it worth it? I'm sure my numbers are off based on bouyancy, and swing weight, but they're good enough for an example. Now that I've claimed they are for everyone I'll admit to regularly using wood paddles because I like the feel of a wood paddle. I've got a lightning ultralight and it gets equal usage with my other paddles. Although the ultralight will be the first choice if I'm going out for a long jaunt. kirk *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Mon Apr 19 1999 - 06:25:58 PDT
