Just wanted to add a little support to this comment. A friend of mine recently braked suddenly at a stop light and watched from behind his steering wheel as his whitewater kayak flew off his roof rack, skidded across the hood of his car, and slid into the middle of the intersection. I'd be crying myself to sleep for months if this happened to my nice, fiberglass sea kayak.
