We've used a DEET product made by Sawyer for years with excellent Results. It's called DEET Plus and comes in lotion or pump spray. It has a relatively low concentration of DEET (I think its' about 17%) along with other chemicals that keep the DEET from being absorbed by your skin as readily. It stays on the surface to deter the bugs. REI sells the same stuff under their own brand, I think they call it Jungle Juice. Not to be confused with the 100% DEET jungle juice in the clear plastic bottles. We learned about it in Dr William Forgey's excellent Wilderness Medicine book.
