Over the past 12 + years, I have been very pleased with the performance of one the original Jansport free-standing dome tents. It sleeps two comfortably, has a great rainfly and in reasonable weather, doesn't require any stakes. I recently spent a very rainy weekend paddling in Arkansas with a few other folks and my trusty dome was the only one which didn't leak. It also sheds heavy wind that would otherwise virtually collapse other A-frame tents. (Note: You do have to add a stake or two when the wind is gusting or it is transformed into a giant green tumbleweed.) It is fairly light weight and unlike some of the smaller A-frames, if you're trapped inside by inclement weather, two people can actually sit in a comfortable upright position. The only downsides that I have found are: (a) it's more of a four season tent (doesn't have great ventilation during our Texas summers) and (b) the three poles go through sleeves rather than clip to the poles (takes slightly longer to set up). In 12 years, I've washed it twice and seam sealed the rainfly twice (as a precaution). BTW, here in Dallas, REI is having their spring sale (lasts through Sunday). They have lots of nice stuff on sale and for members, they are offering 20% off retail on any single item. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Fri Apr 23 1999 - 21:04:02 PDT
