Dan,

"Peer reviewed medical literature" dosen't mean medical doctors
had anything to do with it.  More than likely the authors were
Ph.D.'s expert in sports physiology or nutrition or both.

Not that it matters - use what works.  Water alone definitely
dosen't work for me.
