I did a quick search on Seattle Fabrics suggested by Chuck and came up with
several references to making your own outdoor gear, as Chuck apparently
does. Just thought I'd pass them along.

That last site includes the following intriguing note: "Due to a
failure in testing, the 'Make Your Own Bear Canister' instructions
have been removed - hopefully temporarily!" ;-)

I'll take a look at my old article on making drybags and see what I
can do to get it in shape for posting. I also promised a while ago to
post an updated version of my Greenland paddle-making article, but I
haven't had time to create the additional illustrations I feel it
needs -- Real Soon Now, I hope.

One reason I haven't had time -- aside from being in bed with the flu
for nearly a week -- that I have been busy putting together a new sea
kayaking club with the help of fellow Paddlewisenheimers Dana Dickson,
Andy Knapp, and David Wick. The name of the club is Inland Sea Kayakers
(ISK), and we are centered in the Twin Cities, though we anticipate
doing a lot of kayaking on Lake Superior, in Voyageur's National Park,
and other places. The club is a chapter of the Minnesota Canoe
Association (MCA), and annual dues for an individual or household are
$5 plus membership in the MCA. Our first general meeting, open to the
public, will be at 6:30 p.m. on May 17 at Midwest Mountaineering. Andy
Knapp will give a slide talk on "Kayaking Minnesota's North Shore,"
after which we will have a social period with cider and cookies.
Starting in May, we also rendezvous every Wednesday evening at 6:30
on the south shore of Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis for informal paddle
and practice sessions.

For more information about ISK, please contact me or Dana privately.
