OK All - Normally I'm just a lurker, but you guys must have advice or opinions about renting kayaks. The company I work with owns part interest in waterfront condominiums in the Big Bend area of Florida's Gulf Coast, a beautiful area and a warm-water paddler's paradise. We have considered providing kayak rentals for guests and others, and being an avid local kayaker, I have been delegated to figure out how. Initially we wold start with a small fleet of 2-4 boats, and see what the response is like. My two biggest concerns are potential legal liability and cost of acquiring the boats. The local waters are calm, and a beginner's paradise, but of course if there is a way to get into trouble, someone will figure out how. Secondly, does anyone know if any boat manufacturers would assist such a venture with discounted boats and equipment (after all it is a form of advertising). Currently, there is no one else renting kayaks in the area. This being such a great sport, I would love to introduce others to it and invite the 'weather whiners' down for a break in the sun (come in the winter & spring, this place is a sweltering sauna in the summer). Of course it would always be great to have a few more boats at my disposal. Worth the effort? Advice or opinions anyone? *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Fri Apr 02 1999 - 11:20:28 PST
