What do you use for camp shade in hot climates? Just returned from a pleasant week in the Sea of Cortez. The need for camp shade during the day called for rigging various tarps and commercial shelters of differing shapes and complexity. We still didn't get it right and therefore are searching the collective wisdom of Paddlewise for the ideal solution. In the rainy PNW a standard nylon tarp with lots of tie points and perhaps a pocket for a spare paddle center pole works well. "Tarp Man" Dave Kruger is a master of semi-instant sheltering with this device. We learned in our former canoeing days that most Canadians seem better skilled in tarp arts and crafts than their southern paddling cousins in rainy environs. But what about hot climates where neither trees nor pole material of any sort are to be found? What do Paddlewisers use and how do you rig it to provide maximum shade, strength in the wind (and we had wind aplenty in Baja) with due consideration for weight and size to carry? Thanks for the good advice.
