Woody,
  I'am one the anal ones that care about the paint on my pickup. I
installed one of those bug deflectors on my hood. The bow lines lie
accross the bug deflector and not the hood. It dulls the lexan deflector
a little where the ropes (straps) touch it but plastic polishing
compound fixes that quickly.
