I rinse the bags with a mild bleach solution and then rinse again prior to
next use. While we're on the subject of hydration, has anyone noticed the
strange things that grow in Gatorade?

Hmmm, yes. I thought I was the only one seeing the "strings." I used to
buy the large jugs of Gatorade
and fill up the quart bottles to take on trips. I stopped that after
seeing TheStrings.

So does anyone know/have a clue as to what TheStrings could be? Do we
really want to know? 8-)

Probably akin to "vinegar eel," which is a fungus, I believe. Nutrients in
Gatorade, ya know!

Saps yer vital juices, and then goes for the eyeballs!

Is that 'Gatorade' a euphemism for the liquid that flows through the
canals down there in Southern Fla. Bob?

Gatorade is an excellent growth media. Unrefrigerated Gatorade once opened
or mixed is only "safe" for a couple of hours. I store water in the large
Platy's and mix small quantities of Gatorade in a small Platy.

Can't see anything in the canals! In fact, they found a couple dozen cars a
few weeks ago including some collectibles because a fisherman noticed
something on his fish finder.

Anyone visiting Florida: don't underestimate the canals for some interesting
paddling, especially the more westerly canals.

I have e-mailed Quaker Oats and asked them what the grunge is and if they
any hygiene advice for us. Turns out Gatorade was invented at the University
of Florida for the "Gators" teams.

the current president of the rocky mountain canoe club was part of the
florida gators "experiment" for gatorade... some of the concoctions were
enough to have track team members on the ground holding their stomachs,
gagging ;-) --- personal advice from my previous DR, dilute it to 50/50
[or less] with water, you will absorb the electrolytes, etc faster.
