Suggestion to people who have practiced rolls in the pool in winter: In protected water, such as Clyde found, start your test with a test roll. Even if -- particularly if -- you aren't so confident in your roll. Just the attempt reinforces the learned reflex of "Capsize leads to roll attempt" which will hold you in good stead later. At worst, you come out and begin your drysuit test and re-entry practice.
