Clyde,

You just need to paddle in a rainier climate   ;-)
Here in the NW we just stand outside with a bar of soap and wait the 5-10
minutes it takes for a rain cloud to pass.

Actually, the longest paddle trips I've done were 14 days on salt water and
I didn't have any problems from bathing in the salt water(I'm not known for
using towels, so yes, I did have a salt build up at times). My guess is that
it is a bit of a wives tale and any sores may be due to other problems such
as bacteria, or from the crystals acting like grains of sand - I sweat so
heavily that the grains of sand theory would dissolve. Even a ten day Baja
trip with a shortage of fresh water, and no problems.
