Gotta stick up for the St. Lawrence. I live in Brockville at the start of the 1000 Islands. The river is incredible, wish I had the time, ability and endurance to paddle the length of it. Brockville is about 50 miles (80 km) from its start at Kingston. Fishing is a major attraction in Lake Ontario and the river. I don't have that much luck catching fish but eat all the bass, pike, cat fish and pickeral (walleye for you Americans) I catch. The only downfall I see is its popularity with large cruiser owners, tour cruise boats and those damn jet skis but kayaking in the spring, fall and the early mornings in the summer is great. I can get 5 hours paddling in before the cruiser owners wake/sober up at 11 a.m. :). I believe it is 1800 km long and does have tides, salt water, whales and seals. It is a destination for bird watchers as well. Annual ice flow races are held where folks push, pole and paddle boats through the broken ice. I can't say it is the Sea Kayak Capital of the World but it is something to enjoy. ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael Daly <mikedaly_at_interlog.com> Cc: <PaddleWise_at_lists.intelenet.net> Sent: Thursday, May 06, 1999 8:08 PM Subject: Re: [Paddlewise] Sea Kayak World Championship > Tomckayak_at_aol.com wrote: > > > In a message dated 5/5/99 5:08:18 AM Pacific Daylight Time, > > Clyde.Sisler_at_wang.com writes: > > > > << http://www.traversee.com/english/index-e.htm >> > > > > What bull! > > It makes you wonder if the whole thing s a joke. > > > > The St-Lawrence River: Sea Kayak Capital of the World? > > Saguenay and the Minganie come to mind.
