I do the following for my wetsuit and / or booties: when I get home, I thoroughly rinse them inside and out with the hose, or occasionally in the bathtub if it's late and cold out. When they need washing, I put them in the washing machine on the gentle setting (high water setting), using a capful of Woolite. While they are being washed, I pour in a small amount of bleach - maybe 2 ounces, if that. I always do a double rinse. Booties smell just like fresh neoprene after this. So far this works for me, though it's only been a year, so I can't tell you about the long term implications. (I fresh water rinse (hose) EVERYTHING when I get home - paddles, sprayskirts, boats, PFDs, paddling jackets, hat, gloves, pumps, sponges, paddlefloat, compass, straps, car, tie- downs...) > > the effect of salt water on neoprene wet suits.
