Here in Canada, the holiday was this past weekend: Victoria Day. On a three
day trip, I paddled up and back a large (twenty mile long) local lake, Pitt
Lake, which is also alleged to be the only tidal fresh water lake in the
world. (The tidal effect comes from its connection to the sea, not from its
own size.) Fabulous views of snow-capped covered mountains and your eyes
could follow the fall line down to magnificent alpine waterfalls.
Interesting reminder of the differences in behaviour between fresh and salt
water: an outflow breeze that would have only rippled salt water stirred up
cats-paws and moderate swellets on the fresh.
Saw Ospreys, Merganser, and a seal that had commuted from the sea.
Once I was safely off the water, it was also vastly entertaining to watch
the holiday power boat and jet ski crowd, who don't care what they're doing,
mix it up with the canoe rental crowd, who don't know what they're doing.
It's a wonder the body count isn't higher!

Cheers,
Philip
