I haven't stopped to find out.  Waterloo is about 45 miles north of
here and the last couple of years I've driven through just prior to
Memorial day and they've got big signs over the road which read
"Waterloo - where Memorial day was born" or something like that.
I had never really thought about a national holiday having a city/town
as it's founder before and I wonder if nearby Seneca Falls claim to
be the founder of the women's right movement has anything to do with it.

OB paddling content:  The Seneca-Cayuga canal and the NY barge canal both
run through both Waterloo and Seneca Falls and are great places
to paddle.
