Robin, I spent most of '96 working in the Philippines. I took a K-Light over with me and had a great time with it, although I had to work way too much and it really limited my paddling time. I was on the Island of Mindanao and you can put a boat in the water just about anywhere there and have a great adventure. The people are very friendly and understand boats. The heavy wind monsoons are mostly in the northern provinces like Luzon. Mindanao and the south has a rainy season, but generally (famous last words) escape the high winds. I never saw another kayak in the year I was there, but I was working in a remote area away from the popular resorts. There are a lot of Philippine websites where kayak rental information might be available, or I have friends over there who can find out. I have a pipe dream of kayaking completely around the island of Mindanao. Is this a total holiday trip for you? Do you know where in the Philippines you'll be going? There are many interesting places in the Philippines, lots of history, culture and (last but not least) night life. Hard to make any recommendations without knowing what your interests are.
