The only way to buy a kayak is to paddle, paddle paddle!
Paddle as many boats as you can and then paddle some more. When you do
decide on the boat you want, realize you will probably want a different one
after a year or so....kind of like finding a wife or girlfriend!

Quite true; haveing just passed that threshold a few months ago.
And yes, the desire for a different boat is there. Yet, about the
only thing that I can rationally say my current boat doesn't do, is
that it is slower than the long, skinny fiberglass boats. Given that,
it seems more reasonable to keep my first boat for a few more
years, and by doing so, this changes my "cost of kayaking" quite
significantly. After all, which adds more functionality to my
kayaking, getting a VHF handheld radio, or changing hulls?
Instead of a new hull, I got the VHF radio, a new rod and reel
designed for saltwater use, and an underwater camera. Next year,
instead of a new hull, I might get a couple new paddles, or maybe
even, one of those GPS/Sonar/Chartplotters for the ultimate in
kayaking electronics!! <grin> Now wouldn't THAT be disgusting!
