I did a series of articles in my Folding Kayaker newsletter a few years ago regarding Dealing With Traffic. I did so on the assumption that many folding kayakers live in cities and therefore may likely be paddling in more traffic-riddled waters. You might want to look at them on a website a friend created but has pretty much laid dormant for quite a while: http://www.seakayaker.com/nav-hd.htm The images have nothing to do with the text and were just dropped in by him. I suggest you look particularly at the one regarding what I called the 10 Commandments of Dealing With Traffic as it is a wrap-up of ideas expressed in earlier articles: http://www.seakayaker.com/10-rules.htm The key points really are what has been referred to as the Rule of Gross Tonnage mentioned by Matt Broze and others, i.e. if it is bigger than you, get out of its way and since even a row boat is bigger...you get the drift. Also to boil it down to easy terms to remember: a) do absolutely everything you can to be seen b) assume absolutely that you cannot be seen at all ralph diaz -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ralph Diaz . . .
