I may have to re-visit the Heinlein of my youth. It's hard to beat the multi-faceted Hornblower. If not nonchalantly extinguishing the fuse of an enemy cannonball on deck, he's sailing months without sight of shore for a perfect landfall. All with the inner turmoil masked by impervious demeanor. Tides, winds and their patterns, sun and moon, channel currents, weather--all entered in to history changing decisions made without radio, faxes, or GPS. Well researched stuff by Forester, easy to read. And should be familiar territory to some of the scribes in this group whose wisdom I humbly seek to internalize.
