With all this discussion on effects of wear and tear on kayaks, has anyone
brought a fiberglass kayak back to un-scratchiness once the gel coat layer
has worn down and glass is exposed and fuzzing?

My antique whitewater boat, epoxy resin, doesn't leak a drop and
structurally sound after 25 years (haven't paddled whitewater continuously
in the intervening years, but just couldn't part with my old friend), is
getting white around the muzzle, underside, seams etc. Should I candle the
fuzz to try to burn it off, paint with what kind of paint? No whitewater
in its immediate future but probably a lot of flatwater streams, rivers and
bayous as I've got to have something to float me as my 8 year old daughter
insists she wants to learn to paddle and roll my Eddyline Falcon 16
(fiberglass).
