It's called a partial curl, and it's one of my back excercises that I have been neglecting. :-( It might also help to stretch the hamstrings. The best way to do this is lie with your butt against a wall corner or door jamb, raise one leg at a time, and hold it straight against the wall for 20 seconds or more. Ask your doctor about exercises for strengthening the back. I have been using the exercises in a booklet called the "Fit Back Workout," which my surgeon gave me three years ago to help me recover from back surgery. Don't know what the exercise is called but what I did was lay on my stomache with my hands behind neck and raise my head, shoulders and chest off the floor. I did many? reps of these every day. After a couple of weeks I had no more problems. I also found getting out of the kayak and streching after the first hour helped. Good luck, a sore back takes a lot of the fun out of it! *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Mon Jun 28 1999 - 08:48:58 PDT
