I showed an instructor my C to C roll in order to get feedback for improvement. He said that what I thought was C to C was really an advanced brace roll, and that this was superior to a strict C to C. The difference being that in the C to C no boat rotation begins until the paddle has swept out to 90 degrees. Until I get to 90 degrees my advanced brace roll is identical to my screw roll. In the screw roll I continue sweeping with a gradual hip flick. In the advanced brace I flick the hip hard at 90. One of the best tips I got for both is to make sure that the anchor arm ends up not extended, i.e., the anchor hand is near the chin.
