This last weekend my wife and I took a great two day class from GRO. During the rescue drills Julie showed the demonstrators how she could get back into a boat without any assistance or a paddle float. They started to tease her about how good her balance must be. Someone came up with the bright idea that she could probably even stand in her boat... So she did it!

This photo is the second time in the day she stood in a boat. The boat she's in is the boat I paddled for most of the two day class (we just swapped for an hour to test the other boat). It is a NDK Romany Explorer 18, of which I am currently lusting after (well, and the girl in the boat too). Julie paddled the Romany 16 most of the weekend and loved it much more than the Explorer.

Anyways, on to the photos:

http://homestead.deja.com/user.grindol/JGstand1.html

is a smaller picture (about 179k)

while

http://homestead.deja.com/user.grindol/JGstand.html

is an enlarged picture but is ~750k. The first small page has a link to the second page.

Enjoy,
Mel

When Maligiaq and John Heath were in the Seattle/Tacoma area some time
ago John needed underwater footage of Maligiaq's rolls and so we used my
swimming pool to get it done. An underwater videographer was hired by
John and a full afternoon was spent documenting what happens
underwater. The good news is that a friend (Les Uhrich) and I got a
full two hours of up close and detailed footage (from above water) of 33
of Maligiaq's rolls as well as sequential black and white photographs of
a number of rolls. The bad news is that, as a favor to John, I won't
duplicate the video. What I will do, if anyone is interested, is let
someone scan the B&W photo sequence of a couple of rolls that I find
most useful (it can be a "teaser" for when John's newest video comes
out). The rolls I have in mind are the "broken arm roll" and the "one
arm extended paddle roll".
Any volunteers to do some scanning and posting?
Also, I am willing to do a TR on paddling the West Coast of Scotland
but it will take awhile to find the time to do it.

Only goes to prove: like most other things in life
			kayaking is a balance thing,
				not a strength thing.

Testosterone enhanced individuals have difficulty with this.
