Naming boats . . . Now there's an interesting question. I've always felt that you name a boat during registry, and the boat needs a wide enough stern to paint the name on. No name for my boat although it gets called "Sweetie Pie" or "&%$#!" depending on which way the wind blows. But I don't name my firearms (Lots of people do, Davey Crocket had a Kentucky Long-Rifle named Betsy if you believe the Walt Disney movie.), my cars/trucks, computers ("Hal" in 2001), musical instruments (B.B. King has "Lucille"), bicycles, boots, tents, houses, cabins, etc. I named a laundry bag once ("Ol' Blue"), but I was in the Army at the time and needed something vaguely cogent to relate to. Drilling holes in boats. . . I just replaced a broken seat-back and drilled holes in the lower seat insert. I'm really hesitant to drill holes in the hull --especially for a paddle holder which you may decide you don't need/want in the future. A fellow paddler warned me about this as he was installing a new seat in his Eddyline Falcon. I was wondering about the small holes around the rear of his cockpit . . . "Don't drill holes in your boat unless you're really very sure about wanting the hole forever."
