Yes acetone is dimethyl ketone.  Both MEK and Acetone are low boiling
solvents with low flashpoints.  Both will get you unpleasantly intoxicated
if you inhale too much, both are likely to be very good at removing skin
oils and causing dry skin.  My personal preference for cleaning my
polyethylene boat prior to applying adhesives is to use drugstore isopropyl
rubbing alcohol, it works, its cheap and has a lower probablility of causing
the nasty fire, inhalation and skin problems of the other solvents
discussed.
