Subject: RE: [Paddlewise] Electric Kayak Pump

I have a Rule 1100 pump and a 12 volt 7 amp-hour lead acid gel cell battery
in my boat. Battery weight is about 6 1/2 lbs. Now that I have solved the
water in the switch problem I reported in the earlier thread the pump works
great. At low voltage the pump will run at less than its rated capacity,
but it will still be much faster than hand or foot pumping. An electric
pump also lets you focus on keeping the boat stable a definite advantage
with a boat that is unstable due to a cockpit full of water.

I've seen Dana's pump in action, and the fountain of water it shoots out
is truly amazing; it can empty a totally swamped cockpit in 2-3 minutes
(my recollection; I didn't time it).
