The first "itch" is when your friends start saying they would love to go paddling with you; the second is when you realize that is safer to paddle with someone else -- it also makes loading and unloading soooo much easier. Subsequent itches are for when you decide you want a smaller boat for rivers, or a larger boat for touring/camping. Any justification is perfectly acceptable! Then there couples who own two singles and a double. I find outfitters are a great source for really cheap boats when they sell off the old rentals to replace their fleets.
