I thought I would use the first one for paddling around on the local lake and for fishing. Then I took a three day sea kayaking course and got a chance to paddle several different touring boats including a couple of fiberglass boats (a Wilderness Systems Sealution and a P&H Iona). After that I knew I wanted a "real" sea kayak. A couple of weeks later I found a used fiberglass VCP Skerray. I've been paddling it ever since and have been quite happy with it. Last summer my girlfriend and I were driving back through the Adirondacks after a long weekend at a resort. Both of us needed to use a restroom so as we came into Inlet, NY. I mentioned that I thought there was a paddling shop in Inlet and perhaps we could stop there to use a restroom. We stopped at the place and looked around in the yard at some of their canoes and kayaks for a bit and found a used Indian River canoe for a real good price. We asked the sales person about it and he said that we could test paddle it and two other boats for $15 or so (which would be deducted from the price if we bought one). We weren't in any hurry to get home so we gave it a try. Besides, they didn't have a public restroom but there was an outhouse on the trail to their put-in that we could use. After an hour or so of test paddling the three canoes we went back to the shop and left a bit later with a brand new Wenonah Adirondack on our car. Over the winter I bought a used Eskimo Diablo. I haven't had a chance to paddle it much because the water levels have been so low here and I predominately paddle my Skerray (about three times a week). -- John Fereira jaf30_at_cornell.edu *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Wed Jul 14 1999 - 04:54:21 PDT
