Dear Paddlewise Group, What Mark Zen and others say re Maligiaq is certainly true. He has been staying with me this week in the mountains of Colorado at 10,600' to do some training at high altitude. We have been going to large lakes above 9000' for paddling workouts using a skin boat, loaned by Mark Zarn of Bonito Boats. Today, he was running up the side of a 14 thousand foot peak behind the house. Maligiaq's finances are limited due to his dad being on disability. However, his energy and drive make up for a lack of finances. He is the model of a gentleman and sportsman, always taking time to help or coach people with technique, as well as to share his culture. How many 17-year olds do you know who do the dishes without being asked? I won't take a stab at explaining how to pronounce Maligiaq, but it means "waves". Thanks to all who have been able to offer support as he sets his sights on the larger world outside Greenland. Regards, Jay Gingrich Alma, CO *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Thu Jul 22 1999 - 18:52:05 PDT
