Hi friends, It strikes me that we have to our great luck an uncommonly large number of talented writers! To them, I'd like to say "thanks for sharing your recent paddling trips with us!" If you haven't had a chance to read the stories, then you are missing out on some enjoyable reading. As for my 4th of July paddling.... my trip with Bob was primarily geared to closing the sale of my house in Texas, and where lots of well-meaning attempts to get on the water... any water... failed. Finally, we managed to put an inflatable kayak and my Prism and three dogs in the water on a beach at Goose Island State Park near Rockport, Texas, where we both promptly ran aground on a submerged shell bar and where the inflatable suffered a massive slice from the knife-sharp edge of a large shell. After a lot of glue and duct tape, we headed for Cavasso Creek where there would be less chance of running upon a submerged shell bar. We paddled down the creek and into the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. The banks of the ANWR are off-limits but the paddling is open and wonderful. Saw several birds including roseatte spoonbills. For those of you that can make it to the area, I highly recommend it as a peaceful and scenic paddling experience with lots of natural wildlife and no jet skiis :-) It's been one of my favorite paddling destinations for some time. After being out here on the west coast for three years, I truly enjoyed the warm water and was glad I chose the Prism for the experience of it again.
