September 18 will be grape harvesting time in the New York State Finger Lakes. An informal outing has been informally organized to paddle on Seneca Lake from Watkins Glen, NY north to Wagner Vineyards. They also brew a fine selection of ales here! And there's a cafe/restaurant with tasting rooms and gift shop! Terrapin Outfitters (Call to reserve: 607-535-5420) has sea kayaks to rent _at_ $22 per day. Their office/showroom/store is at 219 N. Franklin Street, Watkins Glen, NY 14891. The proposed plan: Sept. 17 (Friday)...4PM meet at the Wildflower Restaurant (next to the Police Station in the middle of Watkins Glen on Route 14)...for social hour(s), eats and beverages. Some of us will be camping out nearby that weekend. Sept. 18...8AM meet at the Watkins Glen boat launch ramp. We will proceed north along the Eastern shoreline of Seneca Lake. The Wagner Vineyards are about a mile from Seneca Lake (on Route 414). We can walk to the Winery/Brewery...or...they'll come and pick us up. After lunch we can paddle back or whatever... This is not an organized event. Those who choose to participate do so with the self-reliant expectation that they will have fun! I have no financial interest in this "event"...it's a neat area and thought others might enjoy an outing... If you're coming, let us know (directions, motel & camping information available) & we'll advise the Wildflower & Wagner about numbers of people to expect. On - On!
