The main reason for the swim goggles was the abuse of the salt spray on my
eyes over long periods.  I had read a few years ago that prolong exposure to
salt spray could swell your eyes shut, not cool.  Swim goggles in lieu of
sports glasses cause of the
size, they take up very little storage space in the deck bag.
I feel that on one occasion the $100 plus dollars spent on the swim goggles
(my have saved my life?).  I was tied to a oil rig several miles offshore in
ten footers in 30 plus knot winds.  This may not have been a wise place to
be but I don't claim to have wisdom.  Any how my eyes started burning after
bout two hours, after putting on the swim goggles they resolved the problem.
With the goggles I was able to withstand another nine hours of vicious salt
spray as the waves crashed through the oil rig. I know I have sensitive
eyes, but has any one else encountered problems with salt spray irritating
their eyes?

Side note; went out in Lake Ponchartrain (New Orleans area) this morning, 20
plus knot winds, 3 to 4 foot choppy seas.   A small sail boat (16 footer)
was pushed against the rock jetties. They were within the protected area of
jetty trying to get into the Lake.   The two occupants of the sail boat had
no Pfd's, no tethers, no motor, no paddle but they did have beer. My self
and others offered our assistance the sail boat refused help, maybe it was
the beer talking.  Ultimately a jet skier towed them back to the dock.
